Volunteer

Do you want to get active and help build a better society? Do you want to share your skills and make the most of your free time? Do you love birds, animals, and nature? Do you enjoy learning about the world we live in?

Join us and dedicate your free time to contributing to nature! Volunteers are invaluable to us in many activities, and you can choose to volunteer occasionally or on a long-term basis.

Occasional volunteers take part in our activities according to their own interests and available time. They join one-off actions and seasonal activities such as counting different bird species, volunteering at camps, or monitoring threats to birds. There are no weekly or monthly commitments expected from occasional volunteers. You can find a list of regular activities anyone can join below!

Long-term volunteers participate in the regular work of the association, which includes field research, preparing and leading workshops or birdwatching activities, entering or analyzing data, writing or translating texts, etc. Volunteers work with our team in Zagreb or Sinj, or completely online. Long-term volunteers commit to 2–4 hours of work per week for at least 2 months, but flexible arrangements can be agreed with the coordinators. Long-term volunteers always receive professional support from our team during their volunteering, and they can also join various internal trainings as well as national and international exchanges and training programs.

In addition to volunteers from Croatia, for many years we have also welcomed young people from abroad who come to volunteer in Biom through the Erasmus+ European Solidarity Corps program. The Volunteer for Nature project offers young bird- and nature-lovers the chance to spend nearly a year volunteering in a variety of Biom’s activities, gaining valuable experience and direct insight into how a nature conservation organization works.

For years, we have been organizing activities across Croatia, and the help of volunteers is essential. Volunteers collect valuable ornithological data, participate in fieldwork, address local challenges, and help us protect birds and nature. More information on each activity can be found below:
