NGO BIOM is proud to announce Rovozna Ornithology Camp 2011 in cooperation with Public Institution Nature Park Ucka. We are ringing bird for the sixth year in a row using same, constant methodology.

Site: Nature park Ucka, Istria, Croatia

Exact camp location: 45°12′ N, 14°13′ E, Google Earth file

Dates: 20th Aug. – 10th Oct. 2011.

Nearest village: Sveta Jelena, Moščenička draga

Parking place is 300 m from camp. Accommodation is in a big tent plus additional personal tents (if needed).
No charge for visitors or participants. Food expenses are covered by organizer.

Number of mist-nets: 14, each 12 m long and 3 m high; 168 m lenght in total

Mist-nets are in use from early down until 11:00 a.m. and from 16:00 until late dusk. In the morning they are spread before daylight, and in the evening they are in use until full dark.
During the day break it is possible to go on the beach and/or in the market. There is also a traditional Istrian restaurant 20 min away (1 h walking) from camp.

Number of birds caught per day: 30-200

Species ringed (in order of abundance):
Robin, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Firecrest, Garden Warbler, Blackbird, Wood Warbler, Willow Warbler, Long-tailed Tit, Coal Tit, Icterine Warbler, Great Tit, Rock Bunting, Goldcrest, Blue Tit, Crested Tit, Marsh Tit, Nuthatch, Pied Flycatcher, Lesser Whitethroat…

Attractive species ringed:
Black Woodpecker, Crossbill, Nightjar, Yellow-browed Warbler, Scops Owl

If birding during the day break it is possible to se also:
Golden Eagle, Alpine Swift, Griffon Vulture, Rock Partridge, Pallid Swift, Subalpine Warbler, Red-backed Shrike, Blue Rock Thrush, Peregrine
