This month (10th and 11th September) we organized the fifth workshop as part of the project “Wildlife Watch – increasing capacities for the sustainable use and monitoring of wildlife”. The themes of the workshop were “Amphibians and Reptiles” and “Mammals”. It was attended by thirty representatives of our partners from the public institutions Northern Velebit National Park, Paklenica National Park, Velebit Nature Park, Grabovača Cave Park and the association Lička ekološka akcija.

During the first day the participants learned through several lectures about amphibians and reptiles in general, monitoring and equipment used in research (Boris Lauš, HHD Hyla). Also, Duje Lisičić, assistant professor from the Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb held a series of lectures about small mammals in general, monitoring and the most interesting species of the Velebit region. During the first day the participants were also introduced to the use of wildlife camera traps.

During the second day, the participants spent a day hiking in Baške Oštarije and with the help of professional learned how to recognize mammalian traces and amphibian and reptile species.

We would like to thank all participants of the workshop, as well as Grabovača Cave Park and Velebit Nature Park for their hospitality!
