Volunteer event on Drava river, 2nd April

  • 31.03.2016.

The year 2016 has been declared the year of the Sand Martin (Riparia riparia). In the course of this proclamation, WWF along with partner NGOs has organized a volunteer action to prepare the breeding ground for this species on the Drava river. The exact location is Dom Međimurske Lastavice, Dravska 50, 40328 Donja Dubrava on Saturday, 2nd April, at 10.30 AM.

The action, which is coordinated by WWF Adria, aims to point out the importance of Sand Martins in the ecosystem and the preservation of river systems, like the Drava river. Sand Martins breed colonially in vertical sandy or earth banks, e.g. in gravel-pits and river banks, where nests are excavated.

We are inviting you to spend a day in nature and help prepare the river bank for the arrival of this migratory bird species! Please bring rakes, hand-saws, scissors and working gloves.
