Project summary
The Neretva Delta is a key resting, wintering and nesting ground for birds on the Adriatic Flyway. At the same time, a large number of bird species in the area are threatened by poaching. Namely, this area is one of the most critical in Southeast Europe due to the frequency of illegal bird killing.
In the Adriatic Flyway 5 project, Biom Association continues to put pressure on the IKB through supporting local environmental activism, strong policy advocacy work and raising awareness campaign towards end users of poaching in the Neretva delta.
Biom Association moves from the intensive IKB monitoring to development of volunteer network for IKB monitoring and tackling. Aiming to tackle illegal killing of birds, Biom Association will organize workshops for volunteers in at least 4 new counties. Through building antipoaching community, we aim to empower citizen courage to report bird crime and to increase detection of IKB.
Biom focuses its policy advocacy work focuses on development of the national strategic document on tackling illegal killing of birds. Biom advocates for establishment of hunting bag checks on carp fishponds for establishing effective enforcement processes. Biom Association organizes study trips for relevant stakeholders to get them familiar with the best practices regarding environmental police units.
