What can wing shape tell us about the sex, age, subspecies, and even migration timing of birds? Our volunteer Iva Šoštarić explored these questions during her five-month research in Gdańsk, Poland. Focus of her research were two small songbird species – Chiffchaff (Phylloscopus collybita) i Willow Warbler (Phylloscopus trochilus). During autumn and spring migration, mixed populations of these species migrate along the coasts of the Baltic Sea, where they were captured, ringed and measured in order to shed a light to migratory habits of these common, but in many regards mysterious species.
