Migratory birds know no borders. Every year at this time, they embark on a great journey to warmer regions, flying across seas, mountains and countries, returning to places thousands of kilometres away – connecting people and nature across different parts of the world.
For 20 years, we at Biom have been monitoring, researching, counting and protecting migratory birds and their habitats in Croatia, so that they can continue to return to us in the future. That is why we want to celebrate our milestone 20th anniversary with them as our inspiration!
From 24 September to 7 October, we are collecting children’s drawings! It can be their favourite bird species, a species the child often sees on their way to school or kindergarten, or even a species they have seen only once and would like to learn more about.
Once the call is closed, we will open our mailbox and bring all the drawings together into one big digital birthday flock! We will publish the digital catalogue of drawings on our website to mark World Migratory Bird Day, which is celebrated this autumn on 10 October.
How to take part?
1. Let the little artists draw their bird using any technique they like – crayons, markers, watercolours… whatever they wish.
2. Parents, please photograph the drawing in daylight, from directly above, straight over the paper, without shadows or flash, so that the colours and details are clearly visible.
3. Send us the photo, together with the child’s name and age, to comms@biom.hr.
The first 20 submissions will receive a little gift!

Would you like to learn more about World Migratory Bird Day?
World Migratory Bird Day is one of the few international days that is celebrated twice every year. We celebrate it in spring, usually in May, when birds return to their breeding grounds, and again in autumn, usually in October, when they once again head towards warmer regions where they spend the winter.
