Project summary
In order to make the offer of Učka Nature Park richer and more attractive to modern-day tourists, the Public Institution of Učka Nature Park, together with its partners — the Municipality of Kršan and the NGO Biom — is developing programmes and services based on the sustainable use of natural and cultural heritage. The NGO Biom is working on the development of volunteer programmes and birdwatching as a form of tourism, as well as on volunteer programmes focused on biodiversity conservation.
The project is being implemented to develop visitor offerings for Učka Nature Park, grounded in the sustainable use of natural and cultural heritage. In addition to developing visitor and volunteer infrastructure, the offer is further enriched through the establishment of the “Vlaški puti” eco-museum and the hiking trails “Paths of the Kontrabanada”.
Biom is developing birdwatching services by conducting training activities and producing an ornithological guide, and, in cooperation with the NGO Bioteka, by organizing volunteer and ornithological camps within the Park for a total duration of more than 80 days per year, involving both local and international volunteers.
Through this project, visitor infrastructure is being expanded and content attractive to contemporary tourists is being created, based on active participation, lifelong learning, and sustainability. Biom contributes to the project with its expert knowledge of birds in the development of birdwatching offers and by training Park staff to lead birdwatching tours, as well as by producing an ornithological guide. Biom also develops biodiversity conservation–based volunteer programmes by training staff to implement volunteer activities and organizing volunteer and ornithological camps in the Park for a total duration of more than 80 days per year, involving both local and international volunteers.
