Project goals
To raise awareness among conservationists and spatial planners that wild species use urban areas as habitats in general, especially cavity nesting birds
To present Dubrovnik as a tourist destination that cares for its wild species
To establish good practice in the careful renovation of buildings that can serve as a model for other coastal towns and cities
To raise awareness among tourists about the presence of wild species and their functions in the city of Dubrovnik
Project summary
The project “Greening the City” is based on the following activities:
1. Informing stakeholders:
a) During 2018, a round table on the topic of the project will be organized. The round table will be informative and will consist of 3 lectures and discussions. Lecture topics: 1) Wild species in urban areas of Dubrovnik; 2) Examples of good practice in managing “wild species” in other cities in Europe and the world; 3) Presentation of the “opinion” of tourists (results of the project from 2016).
Relevant stakeholders from the city administration and the county will be invited to the round table.
b) During the project, an attempt will also be made to enter into direct contact with the city authorities in order to present the issue to decision-makers.
2. Promotion of the flora and fauna of Dubrovnik:
Photographic materials on wild species will be collected and a flyer template will be created. The leaflet will be designed by an external designer and printed in 1000 copies by a printing house. The leaflets will be distributed among tourists.
3. Management/research:
Project management is the foundation for a successful project and will ensure timely implementation and documentation of costs. A project manager and project administrator have been appointed. The research will be carried out in the office (desk research) and in the area of the city of Dubrovnik. The results of the research will be presented in a leaflet and at a round table.
Materials and publications
The implementation of the project is co-financed by the City of Dubrovnik through a public call for the (co)financing of projects in the fields of environmental and nature protection, as well as urbanism and spatial planning, that are of interest to the City of Dubrovnik for the year 2018.
