Project summary
One of the most widespread issues, common for both countries, Croatia and Serbia, is the illegal use of tape lures for the purpose of quail poaching. The problem was often ignored by law enforcement officers because of low priority and inadequate capacities within environmental and hunting inspections and the police.
The project lasted from 1st August 2018 until 31st July 2019 with the aim of developing internal capacities of Croatian and Serbian BirdLife partners in monitoring and tackling illegal killing of birds.
We accomplished 5 objectives:
- Biom established an anti-IKB team
- Biom developed an internal protocol for monitoring the illegal killing of Common quail
- Biom educated volunteers about the IKB issue
- Biom developed an internal data base
- Biom gathered data which allowed us to identify a blackspot for illegal killing of Common quail
