Biom is hiring a Senior Nature Conservation Officer

Association Biom is looking for a motivated person to work as a Senior Nature Conservation Officer, who will join our team and work both independently and collaboratively on the implementation of the Biom’s projects.

Job title: Senior Nature Conservation Officer

We are looking for a passionate conservationist who can bridge the gap between bird specific conservation, habitat restoration and ecosystems wellbeing. 

Being a dedicated ornithologist is an asset, but seeing the bigger picture is a must.


Key tasks of the position:

  • Coordinating, planning, and overseeing the implementation of projects and services, and carrying out activities within projects and services
  • Developing and writing project proposals in line with Biom’s conservation goals 
  • Conducting field research and bird monitoring in the scope of projects and services
  • Collecting and/or coordinating data collection according to agreed formats
  • Analyzing and/or coordinating data analysis for specific projects/services
  • Preparing and/or (peer) reviewing reports
  • Preparing service offers
  • Monitoring project/service budgets and communicating with the finance and administration department
  • Preparing technical documents, expert studies, and similar materials in the field of nature conservation
  • Obtaining and/or coordinating the obtaining of required work permits
  • Proposing and communicating public policies advocated by the association (advocacy)
  • Maintaining effective communication within the project team (internal communication)
  • Maintaining effective communication with donors, as well as with project partners and stakeholders
  • Reporting on work outcomes to the program manager
  • Setting goals, monitoring work performance, providing feedback, and ensuring the development of employees (direct subordinates)
  • Mentoring of junior staff and volunteers

Requirements:

  • University degree in natural sciences
  • Strong affinity to ornithology (Ability to identify birds by sight and sound is an asset)
  • At least 3 years of experience in similar positions
  • At least one year of fieldwork experience
  • Computer literacy, proficiency in Microsoft Office packages
  • Advanced level of spoken and written English is a must 
  • Knowledge of Croatian is desirable, but not a hard requirement
  • Knowledge of GIS software is an advantage
  • Possession of a category B driver’s license. If not already held, the candidate must obtain a license in a reasonable time period

What we offer:

  • One-year fixed-term employment contract, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent position (a 6-month probation period applies)
  • Salary range (1850EUR – 2200EUR brutto I) depending on competencies and work experience
  • Compensation for meals and transportation (147 EUR monthly)
  • Vacation days: 25-30 depending on years of experience
  • Placement in office in Zagreb, home office up to two days per week
  • Full-time placement, 40 hours per week
